First
of all, remember that you should avoid using abbreviations except
when you are writing the salutation. For a male recipient, use
"Mr." and "Ms." for a woman, not "Ma'am".
The next thing you should remember is that you cannot use contractions.
Instead of writing "I've", write "I have"
or for "couldn't", write "could not". If you
want to write a formal letter, you should also use formal words,
not contractions.
Thirdly,
at the closing remark, if you do not know the recipient's first
name (or his whole name for that matter), you use the words "Sincerely,"
"Faithfully," or "Yours". If you know his
name, use "Sincerely Yours," or "Yours Sincerely".
If the person is an acquaintance or a close friend, you should
use "Best Wishes".
Last
of all; remember that a formal letter should be short and concise.
Contain the letter to one page.
If
you can remember these things when you make your formal letter
template, you will come up with a professional looking letter,
worthy of respect and admiration. If you do this, then you will
achieve what you want through the formal letter.
